Sanders Auctions<\/em><\/strong><\/a> sent me a press release today for their March 28th <em>Pop Culture Auction<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Items being auctioned include what is described in the press release as, <del>the first Oscar\u00a9 for Best Original Score to <em>Con Conrad<\/em> for the song,<em>&#8220;The Continental&#8221; <\/em>featured in the 1934 film, &#8220;<em>The Gay Divorcee<\/em>&#8220;<\/del><em><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><small>*1<\/small><\/span><\/em>, a typewriter owned by <em>Orson Wells<\/em> in the 1930&#8217;s and 40&#8217;s, <em>Steve McQueen&#8217;s<\/em> 1970 passport, and other pop memorabilia related items. <span style=\"color: #339966;\"><em>Lot #2<\/em><\/span> above,\u00a0 the &#8220;<em>1934 Oscar\u00a9&#8221;<\/em>, has been removed from the auction listing. I am awaiting a reply from <em>Nate D. Sanders on March 28.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The first Oscar awarded for Best Original Song<strong> <\/strong>(Est $100,000-$150,000) went to Con Conrad for <em>The Continental <\/em>in <em>The<\/em> <em>Gay Divorcee<\/em><strong> <\/strong>in 1934. <em>The Gay Divorcee <\/em>launched Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire into stardom, and was their first picture to win an Academy Award. Also nominated for Best Picture, it was the pair\u2019s second film together.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Orson Welles used this signed Underwood Standard Portable Typewriter<strong> <\/strong>(Est $10,000-$15,000) during the 1930\u2019s and 1940\u2019s at the peak of his career<\/p>\n<p>In 1941, Welles won a Best Screenplay Oscar for his debut film <em>Citizen Kane, <\/em>named by the American Film Institute in 2007 as the greatest film of the past 100 years. Welles went on to write the screenplays for classic films such as the <em>Magnificent Ambersons <\/em>and <em>The<\/em> <em>Lady from Shanghai<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Welles signed the typewriter with a marker, highlighting a 12-piece lot of memorabilia originally obtained from the Orson Welles estate. Nate D. Sanders is also offering Welles\u2019 famous smoking pipe set and other pieces of his personal collection, originally obtained from his estate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Nate D. Sanders auctioned off over $3 million worth of Oscars last month and sold Orson Welles\u2019 Academy Award in December for $861,000.<\/p>\n<p>Steve McQueen\u2019s 1970 American passport (Est. $30,000-$50,000) displays the Hollywood rebel\u2019s satirical sense of humor. The media often erroneously listed<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">McQueen\u2019s name of Steven Terrance McQueen as Terrance Stephen McQueen.<\/p>\n<p>While in London, McQueen\u2019s passport expired and he was forced to apply for a re-issued one at the American embassy. McQueen decided to apply as Terrance Stephen McQueen to see if the U.S. Department of State would approve it, which it did.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The auction ends Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 5 pm Pacific Standard Time.
