{"id":2069,"date":"2010-06-25T17:34:31","date_gmt":"2010-06-25T21:34:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.moviepropcollectors.com\/magazine\/2010\/06\/25\/2069\/"},"modified":"2010-07-02T02:29:26","modified_gmt":"2010-07-02T06:29:26","slug":"2069","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.moviepropcollectors.com\/magazine\/2069\/","title":{"rendered":"Original Mary Poppins magic bag prop back at Disney?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.moviepropcollectors.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/PoppinsBagWP.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.moviepropcollectors.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/PoppinsBagWP.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2058\" title=\"PoppinsBagWP\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviepropcollectors.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/PoppinsBagWP-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.moviepropcollectors.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/PoppinsBagWP-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.moviepropcollectors.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/PoppinsBagWP.jpg 626w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I attended the recent <strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Profiles in History<\/span><\/em><\/strong> Hollywood memorabilia auction #40 and had a great time.<\/p>\n<p>As well as a spectator, I was also there as a bidder, and bid on a few items that I was interested in acquiring for the <strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Movie Prop Collectors<\/span><\/em><\/strong> museum.\u00a0While I was close to securing a few things, the cards were not right this time \ud83d\ude09 .<\/p>\n<p>One of the items I bid on, was the original<em> Julie Andrews<\/em> carpet bag from <em>Walt Disney&#8217;s<\/em> <strong><em>Mary Poppins<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While there were quite a few bidders on this iconic item, there seemed to be @ 3 bidders who stayed in for the higher end of the bidding.<\/p>\n<p>Near the end of the bidding were myself, another floor bidder, and a phone bidder.<\/p>\n<p>The bag sold for $95,000 to my fellow floor bidder. With buyers commission, the bag if paid for by cash or check, was an amazing $109,250 !<\/p>\n<p>While the winning floor bidder was not someone from Disney a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/news\/la-et-625-disney-archives-20100625,0,5160136.story?page=2\" target=\"_blank\">recent article<\/a> from the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><em>L.A. Times <\/em><\/strong><\/span>suggests<em> Disney<\/em> is working on acquiring the bag.<\/p>\n<p>From the<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><em> L.A. Times<\/em><\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For instance, the carpet bag carried by Julie Andrews in &#8220;Mary Poppins&#8221; may soon be back in the company&#8217;s possession, though Clark (vice president of corporate communications for Disney) won&#8217;t reveal details.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve found it,&#8221; he said somewhat cryptically. &#8220;We&#8217;re working on it.&#8221; &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It would be very exciting if the <em>Disney Archives<\/em> were able to secure the bag.<\/p>\n<p>Today is the <em>Walt Disney Archives<\/em> 40th celebration, which will honor chief archivist and <em>Disney<\/em> Legend, <em>Dave Smith<\/em>, who founded the <em>Walt Disney Archives<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Disney<\/em> mentioned on their <em>D23<\/em> site they will introduce special guests who will be on hand to present several new spectacular pieces into the Archives&#8217; ever-growing collection.<\/p>\n<p>Is one of them the bag?<\/p>\n<p>Find out later today!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Update<\/strong><\/span>: After following <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/DisneyD23\" target=\"_blank\">D23&#8217;s Twitter<\/a> account covering this\u00a0historic event,\u00a0and speaking with a few sources, no mention\u00a0was made\u00a0the <em>Poppins<\/em> bag.
