However, many media outlets are incorrectly reporting that the sale broke the previous auction record, of the 2011 sale of Debbie Reynolds’s Marilyn Monroe White Subway Dress<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, which is not true. In 2011 Debbie Reynolds’s<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, Marilyn Monroe\u2019s<\/em><\/strong><\/a> white subway dress from \u201cThe Seven-Year Itch<\/em><\/strong>\u201d was sold by Profiles in History<\/em><\/strong><\/a> for $4.6 million before premium, and\u00a0$5,520,000 ($5,658,000, depending on the percentage the winning bidder paid<\/em>)<\/em><\/strong> million with buyers premium, so it appears that holds the record (for a costume\/prop) .<\/p>\n

Of course I may have missed something, as I don’t have the vast resources The New York Times<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, Bonhams<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (which also reported Robby<\/em> as “breaking the record”), and\u00a0Reuters<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, who said of the sale, “topped the $4.6 million for the white dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in \u201cThe Seven Year Itch<\/em>\u201d do.\u00a0 Again wrong reporting by Reuters<\/em>.<\/p>\n

No doubt about it, Robby<\/em> got a impressive price but all the outlets mentioned above (including the auction house that sold Robby<\/em>,) got it wrong.<\/p>\n
