The Original Pink Panther Car
Jay Ohrberg creation comes up for auction
At auction for only the second time, the exceedingly rare original “Pink Panther” car is among the most singular—and spectacular—movie and television vehicles ever produced.
A true rarity, this one-of-a-kind automobile was created in 1969 as part of the popular Pink Panther Show, which aired in the United States on NBC from 1969 until 1976. The car itself, known as the Panthermobile, played a major role in the show and exemplifies the whimsical-modern aesthetic of this era-defining television program.
Designed by Hollywood’s master vehicle designer Jay Ohrberg, best known for having produced the world’s most coveted movie and television vehicles including Knight Rider K.I.T.T., Back To The Future DeLorean, 1966 Batman Batmobile, 1989 Batman Batmobile, Dukes of Hazzard General Lee, Starsky & Hutch Ford Gran Torino and even the Flintstones cars, the Pink Panther car is a seminal work by this master Hollywood artisan.
The Pink Panther car was understood to be owned by Mr. Ohrberg until it was entered into auction in June 2007 by COYS. It was then bought for £88,000 by the current owner.
The vehicle is in totally original condition and would benefit from some sympathetic restoration as the car is now 42 years old. The engine is not currently running, but it was believed to be working when the vehicle was sold in 2007. As the car is not street-legal, it does not come with a Swansea V5. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a particularly famous automobile, which is the only one of its kind.
It is being offered for sale via an online auction starting on Sunday 4th September to coincide with the cars appearance at the Chelsea Auto Legends Show on the same day.
The auction is being run by auctioneers Robson Kay via bidspotter.co.uk and ends at 13:00 Friday 14th October. For more information on how to bid or how to view the car after it’s appearance at Chelsea Auto Legends, visit www.robsonkay.co.uk
Sale Estimate:
£50,000 – 100,000

I love that car, it’s pink, my favorite color. I read about the auctions on another site too. they wrote their story sept 5th with no mention of the fake chitty car. now they have a new date sept 3rd as the day they wrote their story and they added the chitty info too, just like you spoke about here. i’m surprised they didn’t add the youtube video you included. I think that other site is following whatever you write and copying. they must really like you.
