Recently I returned from one of my trips to California to cover some fun and interesting subjects for readers.
One of the highlights of my trip was a special tour of the really cool effects house, KNB EFX which specializes in creating characters, creatures, prosthetics, animatronics, and special effects for some your favorite films and television shows.
I had the good fortune to meet two of the founders of KNB, Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger who took time out from their busy scheduals to share a few things with Movie Prop Collectors readers.
KNB EFX Group Inc. was started in 1988 by Robert Kurtzman, Greg Nicotero & Howard Berger, which formed the letters KNB that artists and film fans know so well.
Since 1988, KNB has worked on various films and television shows including Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, Misery, Army of Darkness, The X files, Casino, From Dusk Till Dawn, Scream, The Cel, Dune, Spy Kids, and others.
In 2002, Robert Kurtzman left the group, and both Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger continued the tradition of innovation and quality they started in 1988. Since then, KNB has worked on Kill Bill, the Deadwood series, the Masters of Horror series, Serenity, Hostel, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Inglourious Basterds, Drag Me to Hell, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, The Pacific, Predators, and the television series, The Walking Dead…..just to name a few ;).
KNB has won multiple awards for their work, including the British version of the Academy Award, the BAFTA, and an Academy Award, for their work on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, as well as Emmy’s for Dune, and The Pacific.
I spent part of the day with Howard Berger, Greg Nicotero, and their fellow artisans, who took time from their busy day to share a few special things with Movie Prop Collectors readers.
There was so much to see, hear, and learn that I am making this a two or three part article.
Enjoy !
Part two of the article featuring interviews with Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger, will be up Wednesday.
Part three, being published Friday, will feature multiple photos of KNB’s workshop, artists, and creations.
Be sure to tune in to SyFy’s Hollywood Treasure this Wednesday, July 6th, for a special segment featuring Frank Darabont Greg Nictotero, and KNB.
I would like to extend a thank you to Howard, Greg and their team, as well as a special thank you to Marc Kruskol, president and founder of MJK Public Relations, for arranging the tour.
