Profiles in History Animation Auction hammers $1.2 million

 

Day two of Profiles in History’s entertainment series of auctions was their Animation Auction, and it did not disappoint. The auction hammered approximately $1.2 million dollars* not including bp ($1,476,000.00 with bp),with the majority of lots sold.

There was heavy internet bidding along with phone, and live auction floor participation for the various original animation cels, drawings, artwork, and Disneyana available in the 910 lots.

As in previous Animation Auctions, their was something for everyone with varying prices points for interested bidders.

Highlights include:

 

 

Lot # 5: Original production layout drawing from Gulliver’s Travels. Estimates : $800.00 – $1,200.00. Sold for ($4,250.00 +$ 977.50) x 1 = $5,227.50

Lot # 109: Original “Bewitched” animation cel from opening sequence: Estimates : $2,000.00 – $3,000.00. Sold for ($7,000.00 + $1,610.00) x 1 = $8,610.00

Lot # 163: Original opening title cel from “The Flintstones”. Estimates : $300.00 – $500.00. Sold for (#2,250.00 + $517.50) x 1 = $2,767.50

Lot # 169: Original production cel and production background from “The Flintstones”. Estimates : $800.00 – $1,200.00. Sold for ($5,500.00 + $1,265.00) x 1 = $6,765.00

Lot # 272: Original car from “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” at Disneyland. Estimates : $20,000.00 – $30,000.00. Sold for ($30,000.00 + $6,900.00) x 1 = $36,900.00

Lot # 296: Original hand silk-screened poster for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” attraction. Estimates : $2,000.00 – $3,000.00. Sold for ($7,500.00 + $1,725.00) x 1 = $9,225.00

Lot # 317: Walt Disney’s first professional motion picture camera: Estimates : $30,000.00 – $50,000.00. Sold for ($47,500.00 + $10,925.00) x 1 = $58,425.00

Lot # 475: The most important copy of Disney’s Snow White book in existence. Estimates : $30,000.00 – $50,000.00. Sold for ($50,000.00 + $11,500.00) x 1 = $61,500.00

Lot # 498: Rare, vertical pan cel of the hag with matching background from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Estimates : $60,000.00 – $80,000.00. Sold for ($120,000.00 + $27,600.00) x 1 = $147,600.00

Lot #490: Cels of Pinocchio, Geppetto, and Figaro with the key watercolor production background from “Pinocchio”. Estimates : $50,000.00 – $70,000.00. Sold for ($70,000.00 + $16,100.00) x 1 = $86,100.00
