Profiles in History Icons of Hollywood auction hammers over 7 million

 

 

Auction house, Profiles in History, “Icons of Hollywood” auction was held a few days ago, December 15th and 16th in Beverly Hills, CA. Total for the two day auction was an impressive $7,091,625 hammered. Factoring in 20% with bp or buyers premium, the total in sales was $8,509,950.

The auction had many items selling far above their estimates and bidding was very heavy in internet, phone and in person floor bidding, for some incredible items from Hollywood’s vast history.

The majority of the 1173 lots sold, with quite a few of the lots selling above their auction estimates,

Lot  #454: Warner Bros. main title opening camera logo art. Est: $60,000-$80,000, Sold for $170,000.

Lot #638: Judy Garland screen-used “Dorothy Gale” blue and white gingham  pinafore dress from The Wizard of OZ. Est: $200,000-$300,000, Sold for $230,000. (The Lion costume & Ruby Slippers from TWOZ did not sell).

Lot # 670: Hans Dreier’s 1945 Oscar for Best Art Direction for Frenchman’s Creek. Est: $60,000-$80,000, Sold for $200,000.

Lot #732Marilyn Monroe eternity band wedding ring. Est: $300,000-$500,000, Sold for  $420,000.

Lot #754: Howard Terpning original final-draft one-sheet poster artwork for Cleopatra. Est: $60,000-$80,000, Sold for $200,000.

Lot #865: DeLorean Time Machine car from Back to the Future III. Est: $400,000-$600,000, Sold for $440,000.

Lot #899: Steve McQueen Le Mans suit. Estimate: $200,000-$300,000 Sold for: $800,000.

Lot #901: Le Mans massive publicity and reference archive from  collection of the unit publicist Vincent Tubbs. Est: $2,000-$3,000, Sold for $40,000.

Lot #999: Gary Oldman hero “Bat-Drac” creature suit from Bram  Stoker’s Dracula. Estimate: $20,000-$30,000, Sold for, $30,000.(The Bela Lugosi Dracula cape did not sell).

Lot #1099: Original production-approved “Darth Vader” promotional  costume for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Est: $40,000-$60,000, Sold for $120,000.

I just arrived home from LA after attending the three day event and will have the totals for the “Icons of Animation” auction later today or Wednesday.
