December Movie Memorabila Mania

 

December 2011 will be remembered as one of the largest auction months for Hollywood movie memorabilia ever.

Multiple genres are represented by various auction houses offering items from film, celebrities, and pop memorabilia. There literally is something of interest for everyone.

Below is a summary of the auction houses and their December auctions dealing with movie, entertainment, and celebrity memorabilia  in order of the date each takes place.

 

Julien’s Auctions:

9665 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 150 Beverly Hills, CA

December 1st:  Icons and Idols: Hollywood: Day one of this auction consists of various items from the personal collections of celebrities, art, original movie props, costumes, and other items. Lots range from costumes from The Big Lebowski to Xray’s of John Wayne’s pelvis, with an opening bid of $400.

December 2nd: Icons and Idols: Hollywood and Marilyn Monroe: Day two includes lot #784: Marilyn Monroe Screen Worn Costume, (The Seven Year Itch), as well as various lots consisting of Monroe photographs and negatives (with the copy-writes) from photographer, Joseph Jasgur.  Original props, costumes and artwork round out day two.

December 3rd: Icons and Idols: Sports and Rock and Roll:

Sports and Rock and Roll, including items from baseball legend, Joe DiMaggio, Boxing great, Mohammed Ali, items from past Presidents, items from Frank Sinatra & Elvis Presley, including prescription bottles from both entertainers, ephemera from The Beatles, James Brown, and more.

December 17th: 100 North Carolwood Drive. This auction is for the contents of the home singer Michael Jackson rented before his untimely death  June 25th, 2009. The auction originally included the bed Mr. Jackson died in, has since been removed from the auction at the request of the Jackson estate. A chalkboard with a message written by one of Jackson’s children that reads, “I (heart) Daddy”, is still being auctioned.

December 3rd: Debbie Reynolds The Auction Part 2:

 

This is the second part of the record breaking Debbie Reynolds The Auction, held June of 2011. Items include Marilyn Monroe costumes from Bus Stop, Niagara, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Let’s Make Love, as well as many other costumes from Hollywood’s history.

December 15th, 16th, & 17th: Icons of Hollywood Auction:

Items included in the over 1,000 lot auction are Judy Garland’s Ruby Slippers worn in the 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz, Bela Lugosi’s cape from the 1931 Universal film, Dracula, Charlie Chaplin’s Bell & Howell Model 2709 hand cranked 35mm camera from 1918, a Panavision PSR 35mm motion picture camera used by George Lucas for principle photography on Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, the largest collection of original props, costumes and artwork from the Back to the Future trilogy, as well as many other original props, costumes, artwork, and animation from film.

December 10th & 11th:  Holiday Auction Extravaganza:

Heritage Auction Galleries:

3500 Maple Avenue Dallas, TX

December 13th:  Music and Entertainment Signature Auction:


Items include original props and costumes as well as replica items. A large number of autographed items and photos are in this auction including an autographed, “Meet the Beatles” LP with a minimum bid of $37,500.

 

Bonhams:

7601 W. Sunset Boulevard Los Angeles, CA

December 14th:  Entertainment Memorabilia including Animation Art:

 

Auction features guitars, concert posters, movie posters, a small animation art section, photographs, and a small selection of props and costumes.

December 15th: Entertainment Memorabilia: Knights bridge, UK

Items include scripts, photo’s, various silver, gold and platinum record awards, a large selection of Dr. Who costumes, a bit of animation art, autographed Beatles items, and various other posters and signed paper items. Though there are not many original props and costumes (other than the Dr. Who costumes), there is a ‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark’, 1981: an Indiana Jones trademark bullwhip and a Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, 1999, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s fighting light-saber listed for auction.

 

Christies:

December 14th, 15th, & 16th: The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor: New York, New York

This three day auction is split into three sections each with a different theme each day:

Day One, December 14th: The Icon and Her Haute Couture Evening Sale consists of 68 lots of jewelry and clothing with the last lot being an original painting of Miss Taylor by Andy Warhol.

Day Two, December 15th: Fashion and Accessories, Sessions 2, 3, and 4 consists of 326 lots of handbags, jewelry, and clothing.

Day Three, December 16th: Fine and Decorative Art & Film Memorabilia, including Costumes consists of  146 lots of fine art, film scripts, some of Miss Taylor’s movie costumes.
