Since fantasy, sci-fi, and horror are a few of my many favorite genres, I thought I would post a little information on one of sci-fi, horror, and fantasy's biggest fans and historians, Forrest Ackerman.
Forrest Ackerman was born November 24th, 1916 in Los Angeles, California and is considered to be one of sci-fi and horrors biggest fans, (Bob Burns is another great as well). Forrest Ackerman or Forrey, is also known worldwide as Uncle Forrey, The AckerMonster, and Mr. Science Fiction.
He is widely recognized as a writer and editor, as well as a friend of sci-fi and horror. Forrey counts writer, Ray Bradbury, and special effects artist, Ray Harryhausen as close, personal friends to this day.
In 1953 he was awarded a Hugo award for being a "fan personality", and in 1958 he started the popular magazine, "Famous Monsters of Filmland".
For many years he held tours of his home, known as "The AckerMansion", in the Hollywood Hills of California. His home was a mini museum of many of sci-fi and horrors big name movie props, posters, magazines, paintings and books.
In 2002, he had to sell his home and many (though not all), of his beloved movie props, artwork, books and other special items, to pay for legal fees incurred during a lawsuit he filed and won, on May of 2000 in Los Angeles, C. A.
Today, Forrey has a smaller home in the Hollywood area and fortunately was able to keep many of his rarer items from the 2002 sale.
In November of this year he will be 90 years young and I wish him many more years to come!
