The Nine Gates to the Kingdom of Shadows
Engravings Portfolio
I am beginning a project. It is a collection of the nine engravings from the Roman Polanski's film "The 9th Gate" starring Johnny Depp. An amazing movie and a must see!
I am planning to make a very limited edition portfolio set of the nine engravings plus the title page. One can see the cheap copies on ebay! These are not those! Read on for more:
"Each plate is replicated using digital files which were scanned directly from the original woodcuts.
These woodcuts feature exceptionally stunning detail. Each plate is printed using ultra grade “non-smear” midnight black ink and toner. The plates are arranged in ascending order (1 through 9) however the information sheet (see below) will include the “correct” order so one can suffer a visit from the prince of darkness himself. These engravings showcase extreme detail and not an ounce of color or detail was lost in the printing process. Four of the plates are signed by Tolchia; the other five are signed by Lucifer.
Each of the nine plates is reprinted on 20lb premium series, ultra grade white acid free stock with 108 brightness. These plates are then professionally aged by hand using a complex combination of Kenyan and Assam teas, which are hand applied to the document, then heated by brick oven at a temperature of over 250 degrees. The plates are then pressed with a 50lb weight continuously for over 36 hours to reduce ripples and achieve stiffness. They are then hand cut to match the original dimensions of the on screen “hero” versions of the plates.
Also included is the title page of the book. This title page, unlike the other pages, is printed on 24lb calligraphic parchment stock which also has been pressed for over 36 hours to achieve that “ancient book” feel. The title page was also reprinted using a scan of the original plate.
Each folio comes with an information sheet which lists the “correct” order of the engravings also each of the plate’s translation from Latin to English.
Each folio comes with a Certificate of authenticity printed on silver foil rimed stock. Each certificate is hand signed by the maker and is individually numbered. The certificate states that only 10 copies will be produced with one artist proof. Each certificate will bear your edition number. "
This project will only take about a week to do because I am already started. I will only be doing 10 of these so get em while you can!
THIS IS JUST AN INTEREST THREAD!!! I will sell these only if there is enough interest! The price will be in the $30 to $45 dollar range due to the high quality of materials. I am guessing like $35 not including shipping. I will post pics as soon as I can!
And remeber, yes, this is something you could do yourself but it takes time and more money that expected if you want it done right! PM if you want to be put on a "reserve me one" list! Thanks guys!!!
